Stay safe. If you're locked out after dark or in an area that feels unsafe, wait in your car with the doors locked or at a nearby business until we arrive.
Check all entry points. Before you call — and before we arrive — double-check every door and ground-floor window. A back door or garage entry is sometimes unlocked.
Gather your ID. We'll ask for proof of identity and residence (driver's license matching the address works great). Having it ready speeds things up.
Don't try to force the lock yourself. Credit cards, bobby pins, and improvised tools tend to scratch up the lock face or push the latch further in without opening anything. It creates more work and sometimes damage.
Know your lock type if possible. Deadbolt, knob lock, electronic keypad, mortise lock? If you know it, mention it when you call — it helps us show up with the right tools.
